About Us
Ancient History
Six years ago, in a dank Boston College dorm room, Chris Merritt-Lish and Mike Trapanese were randomly assigned as roommates. A few months ago, after years of wildly different career choices, Chris and Mike met again. They were both freshly unemployed and looking for a next move. Mike had gotten canned from strategy consulting and Chris had seen business lull in his web design practice.
Neither had expected to face unemployment, especially not so early in their careers. Then again, who does? That’s the thing about this recent rise in unemployment — it came on so fast that people were blindsided. Realizing that many people must be facing similar challenges, they decided to team up to build an online resource for people who get canned.
What We Hope to Accomplish
We scoured the internet. We read books. We talked to professional recruiters, human resources professionals and fellow unemployed workers. We spent countless hours on hold with state agencies listening to “Feels So Good.” All in all, we’re hoping to help people overcome the most daunting challenges that they face when they get canned:
- Filing for unemployment benefits
- Getting health insurance
- Finding a new job
- Keeping a sense of humor
We Are The Canned
We are not, however, altruistic. This whole operation is supported by advertising. Someday we would love to pay our interns in dollars. If you are interested in a partnership or in advertising your firm on TheCanned.com, please contact partners@thecanned.com.
